Nine talented artists, duos and ensembles from the Flemish folk and world music scene were hosted in residence at the Abdij van Averbode, in charming holiday homes and welcoming B&Bs. Their journey of discovery through the nature and heritage of the Merode Landscape Park inspired fifteen beautiful pieces of music, each one an “Ode aan de Merode”. You will find the stories and the walks in the book, the music on the CD.
Artists in residence
A strong selection of folk and world music artists came to the Merode, stayed there in residence and worked on new music. The result was ‘de Merodewals’ by GFVP, ‘de Merode’ by Sara Salvérius, ‘Mer(en)ode’ by Laura Cortese and twelve other pieces, inspired by their stay in the area.
Walks and conversations
In each of the Merode municipalities a walk was devised that lets you experience nature, heritage, enterprise, silence, rest and space. With the artists and with Merode makers, such as heritage keepers, entrepreneurs, rangers and therapists, we talked about the music and about what makes the Merode Landscape Park unique. Those conversations are captured in the book.
Ode aan de Merode is a collaboration between Landschapspark de Merode and Merodefestival, with financial support from the Flemish Government (arts & heritage) and Sabam for Culture.
