In the Sint-Bavokapel in Eindhout (Trichelhoek), cellist Stijn Kuppens enters into dialogue with the space and the silence. He offers an improvisation in the moment, creating a hushed interlude in a place where the Merode can be felt and lived.
It is October and evening: we warm up with a bowl of soup before or after the concert.
Stijn Kuppens is a Belgian cellist, composer and producer who, after a career in classical music, has been charting his own course since 2018 with self-composed music centred on the cello. His work has taken him as far as the United States, Japan and Brazil. With projects such as Inner Cello, Dialogues, Seven Miracles and most recently Layers — inspired by the Leuven Chansonnier and the paintings of Dieric Bouts — he keeps seeking out new collaborations, including with flamenco guitarist Myrddin and painter Nele Boudry.
Klanken in de Kapel brings professional musicians to chapels and special small spaces. With solo musicians, acoustic sound and short concerts, minimal means create an intense and hushed listening experience.
Organised by Merodefestival, Landschapspark de Merode vzw, Folkmjusic vzw and the municipality of Laakdal, as part of Landschap van Stilte in the Merode Landscape Park.
